Gratitude Friday

Gratitude FridayGratitude Friday is a weekly ritual that Nolwenn started in order to focus on all the small and big positive things that happened during her week. I almost forgot today was Friday! As I sat in Arby’s this afternoon, making my daily appreciation list in between errands, it suddenly dawned on me what today was. This is the first chance I’ve had to set down at the computer and make my official Gratitude Friday list. As usual, there is so much to be appreciative of:

  • Someone cancelled an important appointment yesterday — an appointment that I didn’t even know I had! So appreciative of that, since I would have missed it, and that would have been very bad. Hopefully, now that it’s on my radar, I’ll be notified when it’s rescheduled. I made several phone calls to find out details; hopefully some of those people will call me back!
  • I’m sitting in Panera, eating a yummy cookie, drinking iced tea and using their free wi-fi. So appreciative of this place!
  • The medications that I take for bipolar disorder and the various maladies I currently — but temporarily — deal with. I’m so glad that as long as I need the medication and treatments, they are available.
  • Our kick-ass health insurance and my health-care team.
  • Loving my iPod, the music on it and the silly games I play. It brings me so much joy.
  • A couple of really good days this past week. I was so full of joy, full of confidence.
  • The Courage to Fly blog hop. I’m really enjoying the posts. I’ll be crafting my own contribution over the week-end. I’m looking forward to contemplating what I need to fly, and how to bring that into my life.
  • As always, my husband, his parents, my sister, and some really good friends; their support and encouragement keep me focused and grounded — and some days, sane!
  • The Three Amigos (our cats) who always bring me such peace and joy. I laugh a lot because of their antics.
  • The weather. We’ve had a combination of gorgeous sunny days, windy cloudy days, and a little rain. I’ve enjoyed them all! I love the wind up in the desert. It feels different than the wind we had in the Inland Empire — cleansing. I love to stand out in the wind and just let it wash over me.
  • The lovely ladies at Collective Journey, my favorite scrapbook store. I love scrapbooking supplies even though I don’t have the scrapbooking gene.  Plus, I love the staff there! They are warm, friendly and passionate about creativity!
  • I’m very appreciative this week of my DVR. Yesterday, I was in a lot of pain, so I just lounged on the couch and watched old episodes of Supernatural and felt much better.

I’m convinced that life is better when I engage in regular appreciation and gratitude. Not only do we attract what we focus on, but the mere act of setting aside a specific time to be appreciative makes me more aware of the good things already in my life. I go through my days wondering if “this” (whatever “this” is) is something I’ll be appreciative of. I’m aware in a way that I wasn’t before I started this practice.
